We are a small start up brewery who have big plans for 2019 and beyond & are looking for an adventurous, passionate & hard working brewer to join us on our journey.
We, Double-Barrelled, operate from a 6,400 sqft warehouse based in Reading, Berkshire, where we released our first beers from in November 2018, after previously operating commercially from our garage.
Running a 15BBL brew kit with 4 fermenters, the team of two have exciting plans for growth over the next few years and plenty of space to do it.
We have invested heavily in a new British made brewery kit, Anton Parr lab equipment & our large site in Reading, so want someone who is excited about the prospect of growth & will embrace the potential for the business.
Our small team means you will be at the heart of our business & will therefore be involved in decision making with regards to brew scheduling, recipe development, lab management, QC & any new equipment commissioning. However it also means you also will still be involved in all aspects of beer production, and may be asked to be involved in other areas of the business such as events & tap room. It’s all hands to the pump here!
Assist & manage wort production
Follow all HACCP & quality control procedures, follow & developing brewery SOPs
Management of packaging, focusing on kegging but also including canning (mobile canning & with eventual plans to bring in house)
Raw material management & ordering
Cold side brew house management from hops to all lab checks
Cleaning, cleaning, cleaning – full vessel & brewhouse clean down and CIP management
Assisting on additional responsibilities if/where required (e.g. dray runs, tap room & national events)
Maintain accurate records & written procedures
Occasional shift & weekend work where required
Double-Barrelled are a small family run team, who’s entry to the brewing industry was home brewing. With a huge leap from our garage, 2019 proves to be an exciting year ahead and we are looking for someone to join us on this journey.
Aside from producing the crowd pleasing juice bomb IPAs & pales, we want our real focus to be experimenting with interesting kettle sours & barrel aging stouts.
It’s an incredible, one-off opportunity to be at the start of something new, exciting and with huge growth potential.
However, the most important element to us is your fit within the team – to filling our knowledge gap, to your personality and attitude, you could become the vital ingredient that we are currently missing.
Brewery experience (at least 2 years) with brewing/chemistry/food science background or education desirable.
You will have an eye for detail, particularly when it comes to cleanliness & procedures.
You will be able to work independently, displaying high levels of autonomy, with a strong work ethic & self-start attitude
You will be willing to partake in customer facing roles at beer festivals and at the brewery tap/tours (in particular whilst the business starts up)
Excitement and passion for barrel aged beers & sours.
Excellent communication skills.
You will fit within our hard working but fun loving team, be a positive problem solver who’s willing to get stuck into anything.
You will be passionate about great beer. Drinking it, celebrating it & most importantly brewing it!
Fork lift license & drivers license desirable.
Must be able to lift large & awkward loads, work in a non-temperature controlled environment, spend a long time on your feet, properly handle hazardous materials & operate complex machinery.
The role is a full-time permanent position and offers the right candidate a fantastic opportunity to progress & develop as well as influence a new and exciting brewery.
Starting salary will be relative to prior experience.
