After what has been a crazy couple of weeks for everyone, we are delighted to say that we are brewing again.
This means a lot to our little business.
Alongside all this, we are marvelling at those who are putting themselves on the front line every day, from cleaners to care workers to supermarket teams, to all the NHS staff. We, as I’m sure everyone is, are so incredibly grateful. Really, there are no words.
And whilst we certainly don’t feel like an “essential business” we are thankful to be able to still be operating in some capacity, and to be able to do so without putting our team or customers at unnecessary risk.
We know that having a couple of beers, is putting a much needed smile on some people’s faces right now, and so for as long as we can, we will continue to operate.
However, as a warning, we may run out of DB beer for a short while…..ooops!
With the news that pubs were closing, we quickly took the action to halt all beer production to save on cost & wastage, and to package the majority of what was already in tank into cans.
This resulted in a much higher volume of cans than we were ever used to and at this point, we had no online shop.
Turning the business around 360 degrees in a few short days to go from 0% of sales from an online shop to pretty much 100% of sales from an online shop has been a very interesting learning curve, and thankfully due to our small size, one we could just about manage on a hugely reduced team.
The support for us, both local & national, has been incredible and we just wanted to say a humungous thank you to all those who have taken the time to order beer from us.
When you place an order you might not think it makes that much of a difference, but it wholeheartedly does.
Without your orders, there would be absolutely no cash coming in to the business, and lots of cash still to pay out every month.
It’s keeping us alive, both from a practical business sense and also a mental sense!
If you are lucky to have the time and the ability to do so, we recommend ordering from local breweries around the country that are still operating but also other independent businesses who have turned their business models around from bottle shops, to cafes & restaurants, to hardware stores, wholesalers and more.
We can tell you, it really really does help! 🙂
So, yes – thank you. Sadly though of course, our beer takes time to make so it’s not immediate back in stock issue, but we wanted to give you an idea of what is coming up, so you can get excited (whoooop whooopp! )
Release number 1; A little more Ding, our keller lager – end of April.
Release number 2; ***new table beer*** Applause – designed specifically to raise money for NHS charities (more details to follow soon) – early May.
Release number 3; BIG FRUIT HEIST (yeh baby, that’s right, we are brewing it again!) – mid-May
Release number 4; Parka – well you wouldn’t us to run out, would you? – late-May
Release number 5; Laundromat – Hazy New Zealand Pale – mid May
Release number 6; ***OUR GYLE 100***. We had been planning a big old party to launch this, but perhaps we can have a big party at home!
Gyle 100 essentially means we have brewed 100 times on this site on Stadium Way. (For perspective, if anyone had a can of Red Jungle Fowl, that was our gyle number 2). So we are excited.
For this, we won’t reveal what we are brewing just yet, but we can tell you it’s a updated version of a previous popular recipe. You will find out more soon…..
Of course all these guideline dates….order of release and beers in general could be changed based on availability of ingredients + packaging materials, but we wanted to give you a heads up!
After that – who knows?
Let us know if there are any other beers you’d love to see back, or what styles you are hoping from us for the summer!
For the DB online shop, for the moment we have moved to cases of DB beer only, as it just makes it a little easier for us to manage on a small team. We will continue to add some banging guest stock from some lovely UK independent breweries over the next few weeks.
We will also be adding the remainder of our merch over the next couple of days too.
A note on courier deliveries – UKMail have been incredibly overwhelmed over the last week, especially after the Easter break. As a result courier deliveries are taking longer than expected, and may be made up until 8pm in the evenings or on weekends. This week they have been unable to even collect from us because their vans are too full. So please bear with us on this one.
Local deliveries – we still are operating our new delivery timings structure. All FAQs are here.
Please don’t forget, on delivery, we are also happy to collect any spare food for Reading’s local food bank too.
We are also offering a 20% discount to all Blue Light Card Holders, on receipt of an ID badge selfie.
Local breweries with stock on their online shop
Check out this great (& far more comprehensive) brewery list from Zoe – here
We will be getting more stock from some more fabulous UK guest breweries soon.
Some other local Reading businesses that we’ve recently enjoyed supporting, who are still operating and doing great things;
Also sending a huge batch of love to the wonders at Clays Hyderabadi who are providing 100 free meals a day to Whitley CDA. Absolute legends.
Keep safe, stay home.
Thank you for your continued support of us.
Can’t wait to see you all again.
